Notes

  • Trade in goods only, not services, in current prices and not seasonally adjusted. The 20 partners are those with the most trade in the month, exports and imports together, and both series show the same 20.
  • Figures include non-monetary gold, whose movements through London can swing trade with Switzerland by billions of pounds from one month to the next.
  • These are HMRC's overseas trade statistics, compiled to different rules from the ONS's balance of payments figures, such as the UK trade balance on this site, so the two do not match.
  • HMRC's own tables add its estimates of Northern Ireland's trade with the EU into each EU country's figures; its API, the source here, keeps them apart. So EU partners here are a little below HMRC's tables, while non-EU partners match them exactly.
  • HMRC's pseudo-countries are left out: confidential trade, its estimates, low-value trade, ships' and aircraft stores and provisions, and the 'Other' regions. HMRC's tables mark the latest year's data as provisional, and each monthly release can revise that year's earlier months.
