Notes
- Accredited official statistics from the returns each coroner area makes to the Ministry of Justice for the calendar year. Coroner areas and their regions are the MoJ's own, by its names: Wales is one region, and the regions are not the ONS's, so no figure is placed in a council or region of the hub's.
- Coroner areas merge from time to time: Greater Lincolnshire, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay, and Northumberland each from two areas on 1 April 2024, and Kent and Medway from four on 1 July 2025. An area that did not exist in a year shows no figure for it.
- The MoJ cannot calculate the average directly from the returns, so these are its estimates, over deaths in England and Wales only. A region's or England and Wales's figure is the MoJ's own estimate, not an average of its areas'.
