Notes

Half-day sessions missed in the council's state-funded primary, secondary and special schools over the academic year, by the reason schools recorded, as the DfE's absence by reason data set gives them, and each as a share of all possible sessions. A pupil's absence is authorised or unauthorised by their school.
The DfE gives these figures for England's 153 councils with education and children's services duties (its unitary, metropolitan and London councils and its 21 counties), not for districts.
The DfE gives Barnsley and Sheffield under the codes they had before part of Barnsley moved into Sheffield on the 1st of April 2025 (E08000016 and E08000019), and they are shown so.
The DfE's methodology: “Current published absence data has no rounding or suppression applied”
The DfE's lines for authorised holidays and legacy family holidays are not applicable in every area, and its totals of the reasons are left out beside its totals of authorised, unauthorised and all absence.
