Notes
- Accredited official statistics from the returns each coroner area makes to the Ministry of Justice for the calendar year. Coroner areas and their regions are the MoJ's own, by its names: Wales is one region, and the regions are not the ONS's, so no figure is placed in a council or region of the hub's.
- Coroner areas merge from time to time: Greater Lincolnshire, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay, and Northumberland each from two areas on 1 April 2024, and Kent and Medway from four on 1 July 2025. An area that did not exist in a year shows no figure for it.
- A death is reported to a coroner when its cause is unknown, or it was violent or unnatural, or happened in state detention. The figures include deaths that needed neither a post-mortem nor an inquest, and are on each year's areas as the MoJ restates them.
