Notes

  • The average scaled score of pupils at the end of key stage 2 in state-funded schools who took each test and were given a score, as the DfE's data set by region and local authority places them. Scaled scores run from 80 to 120, and 100 is the expected standard. The checks hold each average to the DfE's own sum of scaled scores over the pupils it counts, and those pupils to their regions and England.
  • The DfE gives these figures for England's 153 councils with education and children's services duties (its unitary, metropolitan and London councils and its 21 counties), not for districts.
  • The DfE's methodology: “Regional eligible pupil figures are rounded to the nearest 10 when suppression is applied” The DfE's regions give every count of pupils to the nearest 10 and its shares as whole numbers.
  • The latest year is provisional until the DfE's revised release each December.
