Notes

  • Pupils in Year 4 in state-funded schools eligible for the multiplication tables check, as the DfE's data set by region and local authority places them: those who took it and those who did not, and why. The check is scored out of 25.
  • The DfE gives these figures for England's 153 councils with education and children's services duties (its unitary, metropolitan and London councils and its 21 counties), not for districts.
  • The DfE's methodology: “All percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number. Average scores are rounded to 1 decimal place.” Its regions' counts of pupils are rounded to the nearest 10.
  • The DfE's figures for 2025/26 are not yet in its data set.
