Notes

Apprenticeships started at any point in the academic year (August to July), by where the apprentice lives; someone starting two counts twice. The DfE rounds each count to the nearest 10, and counts apprentices living outside England or at an unknown address in England's total only.
The DfE gives these figures for England's districts and unitary councils, not its counties, and leaves out a count it judges too small to publish (the Isles of Scilly in 2023/24). Its file still gives Barnsley and Sheffield under the codes they had before part of Barnsley moved into Sheffield on the 1st of April 2025 (E08000016 and E08000019), and they are shown so.
The DfE's newest release also gives the first three quarters of the year in progress, provisionally; the hub shows whole years only, so the two years shown cover the same months.
