Notes

  • Revenue expenditure, line 790 of the revenue account: net current expenditure with capital financing, capital spending charged to revenue and other items, less investment income and specific grants outside Aggregate External Finance.
  • Figures net of sales, fees and charges and of income from other authorities, the NHS and elsewhere, as each council returned them to MHCLG, for England's 296 lower-tier councils and 21 counties; a county's figure does not include its districts'. England's figure is MHCLG's for every authority, police, fire, combined, national park and waste authorities and the Greater London Authority included, grossed with its estimates for any return it lacks.
  • MHCLG first releases a year in the September after it ends and revises it the next June; each year here is MHCLG's latest release of it. MHCLG gives Barnsley's and Sheffield's figures under the codes they had before the 1st of April 2025 in years up to 2024-25 and under their new codes after, and the hub keeps each where MHCLG gives it.
  • 2025/26 as MHCLG published it on 17 September 2026: 25 councils sent no return in time, and England's figure includes MHCLG's estimates for them.
  • 2024/25 as MHCLG published it on 11 June 2026: 1 council sent no return in time, and England's figure includes MHCLG's estimates for it.
