Notes

DESNZ's gas year runs from mid-May to mid-May since 2018 (2024 is mid-May 2024 to mid-May 2025); 2015 runs from October 2014 to September 2015 and 2016 and 2017 from mid-July and mid-June. The figures are weather corrected. A meter is domestic where it used under the industry's 73,200 kWh in the year, so some small businesses count as domestic, and only meters that used gas in the year are counted.
DESNZ marks each council with at least one major power station or large industrial user whose gas is left out of its figures; the JSON download lists them by year (meta, left_out_sites). DESNZ gives no mean where a council has no meters of the kind, and gave three councils with no gas network no figures at all for 2023.
DESNZ could not place some meters in any council. It counts them in Great Britain's, England and Wales's and Scotland's figures, which it marks 'inc unallocated', but not in England's, Wales's or any region's, so England and Wales come to less than England and Wales's figure.
DESNZ revises every year from 2015 each December, on its latest postcode lookup; the hub holds those years and shows the latest two. It leaves out 2005 to 2014, which DESNZ does not revise, and the medians and the mean a household, which nothing checks.
